What's the difference between 9-carat and 18-carat jewelry ?

The concept of carat is not always clear to everyone. It is a measurement used to establish the purity of materials.
So should you opt for 18-carat or 9-carat jewelry? Here's some advice.

It's all about chemistry

It's all about chemistry

Pure gold is titrated to 24 carats, but in this state it is soft and cannot be properly worked by jewellers. Gold is therefore alloyed with other metals such as copper, silver or palladium in regulated proportions to make a resistant material with which craftsmen can work.

18-carat gold

18-carat gold

18-carat gold is the most common gold used in jewelry. It's made up of 75% pure gold, which gives it high quality and longevity for jewelry. Its color is rich with many reflections, and 18-carat jewelry is shock-resistant. They are also considered non-allergenic and rustproof.

9-carat gold

9-carat gold

9-carat gold is 37.5% pure gold. 9-carat gold jewelry is harder but less resistant to impact. Because they contain less pure gold, they oxidize more quickly and are less shiny, but they are also offered at lower prices.

Augis 9-carat medals

Augis 9-carat medals

Most Augis medals are designed to stand the test of time, and are handed down from generation to generation. They are therefore mostly stamped on 18-carat gold. Maison Augis also offers a number of medals in 9-carat gold: the Vierge Priante Medal, the Vierge Priante Oval Medal, the Saint Christophe Porteur du Monde Baptismal Medal and the Ange Raphaël songeur Baptismal Medal.
